I created roughly 400 chalk paintings (each one completely unique) throughout the city over a two-year period back in 2000/01. They provide a glimpse into the genesis of my imagery and style.
I always worked with 3 different colored chalks that complimented one another to provide the illusion of a full color work renderred in a relatively short period of time. Each piece took between 2-4 hours to construct depending on the size of the panel, the complexity of the work and my energy and focus. Due to the black and white photography, which worked wonderfully for bringing you a presence of the environment as I often worked at night, the ability to see the actual colors in these drawings has unfortunately been lost.
This work is definitely of an earlier time-period in it's development.
